In our queer shorts program, we are taking you on an intergenerational trip. Ten year old Biel is forced to question his self evident friendship with classmate Sara, once gender stereotypes come into play in L’Avenir (Santiago Ráfales). Quite the opposite is going on with Ane and Andrea, who are holding the world at bay. Thirsty as they might get, they just can’t stop having sex in Prioridades (Tamara Lucarini). You Can’t Get What You Want But You Can Get Me (Samira Elagoz & Z Walsh) shows a series of photos and screenshots telling the story of how two transmasculine artists fall madly in love with each other. A portrait of queer/trans love that we don’t get to see often enough.
The queer comedy Rejoyce! (David Ledger) brings upheaval in a family when an elderly vicar's wife re-discovers a book of erotic fiction that she wrote in her youth. Finally, Friends of Sophia (Alden Peters) and If I’m Here It Is by Mystery (Clari Ribeiro) serve queer sci-fi. In the former, citizens work for the good of The Company, bound by a strict contract to build robotics for a far-off war. Relationships with the androids are severely punished. In the latter, supreme witch Dahlia is determined to beat the Order of Truth. She assembles a clan of trans and queer people in New Rio, 2054.
Together, these films form a kaleidoscopic look at queer stories, on view at The Cinema.
